Nike Davies-Okundaye was born in Ogidi-Ijumu, Kogi State, Nigeria. She is from a family of craftsmen, and so since a young age Nike was nurtured into art. Today she is a major art influencer around the world, her artwork is exhibited in Nigeria, England, United States of America, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and last but not least Italy. Nike has managed to open one of the largest galleries in Africa, and art centres in Nigeria, for example the ‘Nike art gallery’ currently in Lekki. When you look at her work, you will see the influence of the village art, textiles, print, and skill for weaving (that she was taught from the age of six by her grandmother). Her mastery in fashion designs and afro-centric art, made her lecturer in Harvard, and she did not have the normal qualifications, but her talent earned their respect.
